Ah, my favourite preserve. I used to avidly collect the Robertsons brooches - in fact I designed a few for them during less "aware" times.

Me too :-) My school in Droylsden, Manchester was near the Robertson jam works and my friends Dad worked there and was a great source for badges. Well before your vintage though Ian ;-)

Do you have any memorabilia from then?

I have a complete set of the brooches from 1928 (pre-enamel) through to it being dropped at the start of the millenium.

Brilliant! That is a serious collection. Goodness knows what happened to mine, but it merely featured those current at the time. They were such fun and beautifully done. I wish I still had them. And also the golly doll my Mum made for me when I was very small. He was very smart with long pinstripe trousered legs, yellow waistcoat, red jacket and bow-tie. Of all my toys I view him with special fondness.

Know what you mean. First golly I saw was holding a guitar. It was the 50's (I was about 8 or 9?) So I linked him with Lonnie Donegan or Tommy Steele I suppose. But it wasn't 'til the 1980s a started finding him so many friends.

You must be older than I thought Ian ;-)
