MORPHI original figurative abstract painting

MORPHI
Acrylic on canvas
28 x 20 inches approx.
70 x 50 cms

This painting was inspired by sights, experiences and my own feelings around one evening spent in Limassol old town when we visited an art exhibition at the Morphi Gallery. (The word 'morphi', by the way, means 'form' in greek).

I like it. But I can't tell from the progress reports whether it was - with the possible exception of the overlaid circles - completely preplanned or not. It looks like it was, but maybe it just growed?

Hi Harry
Thanks for popping in. From the start I planned to include images of the gallery, the black/white artist portrait and the taverna. The old couple in the scruffy dark taverna were on the opposite side of the road to the gallery. The couples' disconnection from each other and the general contrast with the vibrancy and light from the gallery said something to me about how I felt that night. I seem to be painting aspects of myself into pictures recently. In this case, am I the inspired artist, the beautiful young student or the disconnected old woman. Or am I all three?

Sorry Harry ... in answer to your question. I knew what I wanted to say and apart from the 3 above and the general structure ... it just evolved from there. Actually I like your word better. It just 'growed' :))

I think it's inevitable that we paint ourselves into our pictures, but it's not always possible to recognise what it might say about us. Sounds like you've got a head start in this one.
