The girls and I went for lunch in a mountain village last Thursday, and called at the Donkey Sanctuary at Vouni on the way back. They still have their wooly thick winter coats and look especially cute. Couldn't resist painting this happy chappy.

This is for you Lesly! Winnie is the eldest resident at the Sanctuary and such a poppet. She likes to follow the other donkeys around when they go out for exercise. She doesn't have reins, and certainly doesn't need to be guided .... but I insisted ;-) Winnie is the one with big ears.

Hi Bee ... he is a gorgeous fellow. Lovely little painting!

I love donkeys. Once on holiday in Spain we went on a 'donkey safari' up a mountain. We had to catch our own donkey, bridle and mount it! I had our small daughter with me on mine who proved to be a headstrong beast .... he kept pushing towards the front of the queue on the OUTSIDE and it was a sheer drop in places! No amount of "Whoa, Burro" would stop his headlong pursuit!

It was pretty terrifying but obviously we survived weak-kneed but otherwise unscathed

This fella looks very like!

LOL I know what you mean. I've had a couple of similar donkey experiences, in the wilds of Portugal and than not having learned my lesson the first time, up a mountain on a Greek island. I now restrict all donkey contact to leading them around for a walk (I'll pop a little image on the blog) and indulging their sweet teeth with carob pods.

Bee, thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind comments. I would love to link to you and will add your link to both my blogs. The blogosphere is the most wonderful place. Fascinating! Give the little donkeys a sugar lump for me.
